Hunting African game is an emotionally-charged issue, so we work to inject scientific facts into the discussion. But facts alone sometimes fall short of convincing someone who just doesn’t like the idea hunting. So we’ve collected several different sources for you to read, watch and learn for yourself. The links below are from a wide variety of people including scientists with PhDs in conservation; non-hunting journalists; documentary directors who are anti-hunters; a TED presenter; a Zimbabwean who grew up in the African bush and is now a medical doctor in the United States—in other words, a lot of people who aren’t hunters, but who all provide valuable information for you to consider. And who all have spent long periods of time on the ground in Africa forming their conclusions.

SUSTAINABLE USE CONSERVATION: Using the various components of wildlife—the species and habitats—while maintaining all the ecosystem’s functions and benefits so they can continue over the long term.

Sustainable Use, by definition, is conservation.

From WWF: Local communities and species have benefited from this innovative and popular conservation approach through the creation of new jobs, additional food, and diversified livelihoods – thereby creating incentives for communities to protect local wildlife populations and to conserve the habitat such populations depend upon. https://www.worldwildlife.org/pages/sustainable-use-of-wildlife

HUNTING CAN BE GOOD FOR LIONS AND ELEPHANTS
The debate about hunting lions and elephants has just come roaring back. Earlier this month the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lifted a ban on importing lion and elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia. KILLING CECIL TO SAVE LIONS?

WHAT IF WE BANNED TROPHY HUNTING IN AFRICA?
Many folks, at least among the conservation-minded, seem to agree that trophy hunting isn’t exactly a good model of animal welfare. But many also acknowledge that it can be, if executed properly and with oversight and strict quotas, a useful wildlife management tool. Hunting may be among the few useful mechanisms for controlling ungulate populations that would expand with abandon given the relative absence of natural predators.
