A talented writer and award winning author in her own right, Fiona was also deeply involved in the production of her late husband, professional hunter and best-selling author Peter Hathaway Capstick’s best-selling thirteen book series on the African safari experience.

Fiona has traveled the world, including the great game fields of Africa. Her ‘boots on the ground’, first-hand experience taught her the undeniable truth about the critical role that hunting plays in wildlife conservation. Today, Fiona is among the most respected voices on the international conservation stage. Nowhere will you find a more dedicated spokesperson to represent the facts behind the great truth that we at DSC call… Conservation Through Hunting. We are honored to present Fiona Capstick with the DSC Foundation Legacy Award.

2021: Mary Cabela

Mary Cabela is the perfect recipient for the inaugural DSC Foundation Legacy Award.  In 1961 the iconic Cabela’s brand started with a vision shared by Dick Cabela, his brother Jim, and Dick’s wife Mary. That vision eventually became an extraordinary American success story, one that earned Cabela’s a legion of loyal and satisfied customers, as well as recognition as ‘The Worlds’ Foremost Outfitter.’

Mary is equally accomplished in her role as an astute businesswoman, as she is as an international hunter and conservationist. As matriarch of the Cabela family, her intense passion for hunting and conservation extends to her children, grandchildren, and all who benefit from her passionate support for hunting and the Conservation through Hunting model, which is in itself a precious and personal legacy. We are very happy to recognize and honor Mary for her invaluable contributions to our hunting heritage.
